How do you want it?

The first cold night always shows up before you're ready for it. Our mixed seasoned hardwood runs 80% oak, blended with hickory, cherry, locust, ash and maple — the slow-burning stuff that holds a fire through the evening instead of racing through it in an hour.

Seasoned and ready to burn now, not next winter. Choose your cord size above.

The basics

What you are actually buying

Firewood is one of those things where the pile looks the same no matter who sold it to you. Here is exactly what is in ours.

THE MIX 80% oak, blended with hickory, cherry, locust, ash and maple
LOG SIZE Averages 16 inches long, with 2 to 6 inch faces
SEASONED Split and dried already, so it burns this winter and not next
FOUR SIZES 1/32 up to 1/4 cord, each one double the last

Which size do I need?

A full cord is 128 cubic feet, stacked four feet high and eight feet long. Almost nobody needs one. These are the fractions people actually burn.

1/32 cord About 4 cubic feet A few evening fires. The easy way to try us out.
1/16 cord About 8 cubic feet The usual first order. Fits in most trunks.
1/8 cord About 16 cubic feet For a fireplace you light most weekends.
1/4 cord About 32 cubic feet A proper stack for the season. Bring a truck, or let us deliver.

Those volumes are the stacked measure. How long a load lasts depends on your fireplace and how often you light it, so treat them as a starting point. If you are stuck between two sizes, call the market and we will talk it through.

Questions we get

How do I know it is really seasoned?
Seasoned wood is lighter than it looks, the cut ends are checked and cracked, and two pieces knocked together sound hollow rather than dull. Ours has been split and sitting, not cut last month.
Can I burn oak right away?
Yes, which is the whole point of buying it seasoned. Green oak needs a year or more before it burns cleanly. That is why wood people cut themselves in the fall rarely works that same winter.
What is the difference between this and the bundles?
The kiln dried bundles are small and convenient, good for a fire pit or one quick indoor fire. The cord sizes are bulk wood at a far better price per fire. Most people who burn regularly buy a cord fraction and keep a bundle around for starting.
Do I need kindling too?
Usually, yes. Hardwood this size will not light from newspaper alone. The Fatwood firestarters and kindling bundles further down are what we use ourselves.
How should I store it?
Off the ground, covered on top, open on the sides. A tarp wrapped tight around the whole stack traps moisture and slowly undoes the seasoning. Keep it outside until you are ready to burn it so you are not carrying insects indoors.
My ZIP is not on the delivery list. Now what?
Give the market a call. The list covers where we can reliably run a truck. We will tell you straight whether we can make an exception or whether you are better off picking up.
