This is the tall kind of garden phlox, the sort that stands 32 to 36 inches and carries big fragrant clusters of pink-purple at the top of well-branched, upright stems. It flowers through summer and pulls in pollinators the whole time it's open.

Garden phlox has a reputation for powdery mildew and it's earned. The Luminary® series was bred to get past it, and 'Evening Glow' carries excellent resistance. Give it full sun to a little afternoon shade and soil that stays moist without staying soggy. Worth knowing before you dig the hole: it gets nearly as wide as it is tall, close to three and a half feet, so leave it room in the border.
