Burgundy plumes arch out of the top with wide chartreuse leaves spilling over both sides. Underneath sits an ornamental pepper carrying red, purple and orange fruit all at the same time, with black-eyed susans and spikes of purple salvia filling the middle and creeping jenny trailing over the rim.

This is the one that reads from the street. Put it on the front step or beside the door where the height has room to do its thing.

Care is simple. Full sun, and check the water daily — a basket this full dries out faster than a pot the same size, especially on a warm October afternoon. Pinch spent blooms as you walk past and it keeps pushing.
