'Monarch Magic' doesn't look like much of a butterfly plant at first — soft periwinkle puffs, fuzzy as a stuffed animal, stacked over tidy mounds of green. Then a monarch lands. Then another. The blooms are pure nectar fuel, and the butterflies treat them like a scheduled stop.
It keeps that soft lavender-blue color coming from now until frost, long after most annuals have called it a season — and it plays well with everything: borders, patio pots, or tucked in front of taller bloomers where the color can hum along the edge.
Easy rule for our Northern Virginia gardens: sun to light afternoon shade and a drink when it's dry. It's an annual here in 7b — one glorious season, start to finish — so plant it where you'll see the visitors.
